As of today, IOCP has received donations or pledges for the Sleep Out totaling $402,000, which will allow us to respond to the housing needs of 188 families in the coming year. We're 20% to our goal of $2 million, which means we must keep getting the word out that without communitywide support, many families in our area will risk homelessness.
Burgers for Bob!!!
Take a night off from cooking on Thursday, Dec. 4, and support the IOCP Sleep Out by dining at Burgers for Bob, 5–8 p.m., Countryside CafĂ©, 842 Hwy. 55, Hamel. Hosting the fundraiser are alumni of Wayzata High School, current students, and the Y.E.S. Advisory Board. Take out is also available by calling ahead (763-478-2101).
Community Conversations on housing

In the past year, there have been 218 foreclosures in our area, including 155 in Plymouth and 18 in Wayzata. The western suburbs will need more than 1,800 affordable housing units in the next 12 years, but currently none are under construction. What are your perceptions of the housing issues in our community, and what advice do you have about increasing awareness of the needs and engaging broader involvement in the Sleep Out? Join LaDonna Hoy, IOCP executive director, at IOCP to discuss ways IOCP can better inform and engage others. Your input is critical! Call Jill Kohler (952-404-9388) to reserve a place on one of the following dates. Lunch/refreshments will be provided.
Tuesday, Dec. 2, 5–6 p.m.
Wednesday, Dec. 10, 12:30–1:30 p.m.
Monday, Dec. 15, noon–1 p.m.

About Peter Larson

Increasing, youth are playing a key role in the campaign. None has made such a difference as Peter Larson, a 14-year-old from Plymouth who is a 9th grader at Wayzata Sr. High School. This is his 9th year sleeping out on IOCP's behalf, and 3rd year sleeping outside every night of the campaign. His goal last year was to raise $30,000; he ended up raising $50,000! This year he has set his sights on keeping 125 families from becoming homeless. In order to do this, he hopes to raise $71,125.
In Peter's words: "I sleep out each year because I know that I can make a difference by doing so.I do it because its the right thing to do, to try and help. Its fun to be able to help people, to make sure they have affordable housing.Ive slept out in temperatures as low as -5 because I can."
Peter Larson truly exemplifies someone who is making a difference in his community, and he is inspiring others. His own fundraising success has led IOCP's board of directors to have as its Sleep Out goal this year to "beat the kid". Peter's efforts on behalf of the housing needs in his community are particularly timely given the housing crisis and the rise of foreclosures in the western suburbs.
Just a little more information regarding Interfaith Outreach...

IOCP is the place in our area where people go when they have housing needs. For nearly 30 years IOCP has been able to respond to struggling families because of the tremendous and continuous support from the community. Given the economy, the need now has never been greater, and we urge them to donate to The Sleep Out.

Thanks to everyone who participated in the kickoff last Saturday!!!

We're thrilled to announce that after the kickoff weekend to The Sleep Out 2008, we have brought in funds and pledges to help 145 families, totaling $310,000. With so many churches hosting sleep outs this past week, your efforts are a large reason for this strong start. We are grateful for your support and ask for your continued prayers in the days and weeks ahead as we beat the odds for 939 families in this community that can. THANK YOU!

Oh yeah... I forgot to say where the proceeds are going.
All proceeds are going directly to Interfaith Outreach to help support people needing shelter in our local area. They are not going somewhere miles and miles away, but are instead going to help people that we might actually see and interact with here in the Plymouth/Wayzata area. The goal this year is to raise $2 million in proceeds to help this cause.

Bob's Sleepout Kickoff Event

Hey Everyone----

There will be a kickoff for Bob's Sleepout this Saturday, November 15th from 5:30-8:00 p.m.
The kickoff will be held at Klapprich Park in Wayzata, which is just East of Wayzata West Middle School. There will be a bunch of fun activities going on that are suitable for all ages. Some of the activities aimed towards younger ages include facepainting and building a house for ShoeBob (made out of shoeboxes). Along with these, there are activities suited for older kids and even adults that are confidential until the actual kickoff.
Overall, the goal of the kickoff is to just raise a general awareness for the sleepout and have a fun time doing it!

Hope to see you all there...
